Make Hinglish captions in three steps
- Spoken language is already set to Hindi, and "Captions in" to Hinglish. Change it to Hindi script if your audience reads Devanagari.
- Add channel names, brands or slang to "Names & terms" so they come out spelled your way, then drop the video.
- Read through the captions, fix anything off, pick a style and export an MP4 with the captions burned in, or an SRT for YouTube.
Why Roman letters work better on Reels and Shorts
Most people who speak Hindi online type it in Roman letters. A caption like "aaj hum baat karenge" is read in a glance, while the same line in Devanagari slows down viewers who rarely read the script, and mixed lines with English words written in Devanagari are harder still. Captions only help watch time if they can be read before the next one appears.
The usual workaround is long: transcribe in Hindi, export the captions, paste them into ChatGPT to convert, then import them back. Here the speech model writes Roman letters directly, and the timing stays tied to the audio, so word-by-word highlight styles still line up.
Three ways to write the same sentence
- Hinglish (Roman letters): mera phone number hai 9840950950
- Hindi script, English words in English: मेरा phone number है 9840950950
- Hindi script only: मेरा फोन नंबर है 9840950950
You choose before transcribing. Already have captions in Devanagari? Use "Translate to…" above the caption list and pick Hinglish to convert them, timing unchanged. That conversion is free.
